AlienBees Gel Testing Page
Recently I ordered a set of 20 Color Filters/Gels from AlienBees. The filers are 8"x11" and can be clipped to the reflectors with the clips that shipped with the AlienBees Strobe. I randomly experimented with the filters to see what could be done with them using seamless paper. After playing around with them for a while, I decided that it would make sense to put the gels through a series of "tests" to see how the colors looked using super black and super white seamless paper.
These tests are very unscientific and your mileage will very depending on your light sources, placement, etc. Nevertheless hopefully they will give you a starting point to see what can be done with the CF-20 Gel/Filter kit from AlienBees. All images were captured with a Canon D60 using a 28-135mm lens set at about 35mm. Shutter speed on all images was 1/125 and aperture was F8. Strobe was an AlienBees B800 and there was a silver reflector placed opposite the strobe to even out the light.
The file names are such that they match the number affixed to the front of each filer, the file name can be viewed by clicking on the thumbnail for each image. If you have any questions about this test or my experience with the filters please email me at gels@mattlydy.com Please scroll down for the links to the test.
Thanks,
Matt
